Ve olvidándote ya de una versión coupé para el Chevrolet Malibu, porque General Motors no tiene intención aparente de recuperar tan histórica carrocería para su sedán mediano, que por estas fechas cumple 35 años coincidiendo con el lanzamiento de su octava generación.
Cabe recordar que el Malibu nació como un derivado tope de gama del antiguo Chevelle de los años 60, que se llegó a comercializar en variantes sedán, familiar, coupé y descapotable.
El Malibu Coupé, que flotaba en forma de rumor desde hace meses, existió un día en la mente de los diseñadores de GM, pero no llegó a superar la fase de idea. Durante una presentación ofrecida a los medios de EEUU la semana pasada, Ed Welburn, jefe del departamento de estilo de General Motors, mostró a la prensa un par de renders de un Malibu con sólo dos puertas laterales en lugar de cuatro, pero cuando se le preguntó si en GM tenían intención de lanzar tal modelo como modelo de producción, el siempre dicharachero Welburn (hablador pero increíblemente escurridizo; es una anguila de la retórica), dijo que «un Malibu Coupé podría ser un coche muy bonito, pero no está ahora mismo en los planes».
